The best thing about summer is the fresh produce. And, when the chips are down, the best thing you can make with summer produce is guacamole. And the best guacamole, in our opinion, has mangos. The Maids will show you just how it’s done.

We know it can get a little heated and be a little temperamental, but making guacamole from scratch is actually a lot easier than it sounds.

Here’s the recipe.

  • 3 perfectly ripe avocados (the skin should give ever-so-slightly)
  • 1 small red onion
  • 1 mango
  • 1 lime, juiced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced (about 1 tablespoon)
  • 1 tablespoon sea salt
  • Fresh cilantro to taste (we think 3 tablespoons is about right)

1. Prep the produce. To quickly peel an avocado, run a knife through the skin around the pit lengthwise and twist the two halves apart. Remove the pit. Then, simply use the skin to squeeze the avocado out in to a bowl. Click here for a fast and easy way to peel a mango. Dice the onion, mince the garlic, finely cut the cilantro, and chop the mango.
2. Mash the avocado. We think a slightly textured consistency is the way to go.
3. Invite the rest of the ingredients to the party. Stir in the onion, the mango, the garlic, and cilantro. Season with lime juice and salt to taste.
4. Share. (We only write this because you’ll need to be reminded).

For the best results, use the freshest ingredients possible, tasting as you go. You may find that your onions or garlic are stronger than usual, and therefore you won’t need as many to achieve the taste you are after. Keep in mind, the real beauty of guacamole is that you can’t really make it the same way twice, so enjoy each batch for the unique exploration of ingredients it is.

Serve it with chips, endive leaves or atop hamburgers, grilled chicken, and fish and eat it knowing you’re giving your body something that is full of fiber, antioxidants, and vitamins.
